Almelo (Ov): St. Egbertus (J. Stuyt, 1922-1924)

The
St. Egbertus is a centralising church with a cloverleaf-shaped floor-plan. It has a short pseudo-basilican
nave, a big circular
crossing-tower with cone-shaped dome and a square tower at the side of
the front. Especially the crossing-tower reminds of the St.
Trudo in
Zundert Stuyt built several years later. The entire eastern part of
the
church shows Byzantine influences while the interior of the nave is
based on German Romanesque. Several parts of the exterior are decorated with
checkerboard-motives as typical for Stuyt's work.
The church was closed in 2004. Its future is uncertain.
